Kembla is a fictitious character from My Painted Elephant. She is the unknown mother of Hypatia who was a mathematician and philosopher from Alexandria. She was brutally murdered by a frenzied mob and Kembla and friends try desperately to save her. The iron spiral is a monument to her.
